Bitter Springs Trail Description

Bitter Springs Trail is a long and fun trail located just north of Las Vegas and travels from the Valley of Fire Road (NV 169) and Northshore Road. It crosses the Muddy Mountains and is one of the most beautiful trails in the Las Vegas area. Bitter Springs Trail is moderately long and remote. It is a stock friendly trail that isn't too difficult. There are a few sections of rough terrain, a few steep climbs, and some ruts, but nothing that should pose any serious challenges. On the west side, the trail weaves between a rocky wash which offers a bit more challenges as far as technical offroading goes if you want run up the wash instead of the trail. On the east side the trail follows a pretty sandy wash so make sure you air down and keep your speed up. Accessing Bitter Springs Trail is pretty straightforward from the west, just take the Valley of Fire road and veer to the right after 3.2 miles and your are there. From the east side, it is a little more hidden as to where the trail starts, use the GPS coordinates on this site to mark the entrance. Bitter Springs has some amazing scenery from Flintstones type rock formations, to large broad canyons, closed in canyons, an old rock quarry, and desert landscaping. Bitter Springs Trail also provide access to Buffington Pockets about 6 miles in from the west side which is a petroglyph site. Bitter Springs is on the must do trails with your Jeep in the Las Vegas area. It is not very technically challenging, but is very rewarding none-the-less.
